Twelfth Stereotype edition. Sub-title continues “with the pronunciation and accentuation according to the method of Webster and Heinsius. For general use”. English-German and German-English, with accompanying text in both languages. The first edition stressed that this dictionary was aimed especially at speakers of American English, although this edition does not state this explicitly. Quarter leather, gilt titles to spine, boards covered in what is possibly shagreen. German entries and explanatory text printed in Fraktur. Condition: Board covering very worn, with a damaged area to rear board revealing the board itself underneath the covering. Considerable age-tanning to pages; spotting and staining to title pages. Binding secure, but joint strained at title pages. Previous owner’s names etc to front end papers, very occasional pencil notes in margins. One earlier reader (L Wilson, Elthorne Park Road, Hanwell, London W) was a pupil at Southall County School.
