Further Details

Co-editor Salvatore Castorini. With text in Italian and English. A work providing a showcase and reference work for Italian artists, in all mediums, active at the time of preparation of the work. These are the first five volumes, published from 1974 to 1978; each volume has its own index but each index is cumulative- that is, includes the index to previous volumes. Erratum slip to each volume. Heavy, substantial volumes, many illustrations in colour. Dark blue boards, gilt titles. The earlier two-volume work of the same name, with substantially the same remit, published by Società Editoriale Nuova in 1970, contained many more entries per volume, while the newer work described here treats the artists included in more detail. Condition: The volumes vary in condition from at least Good (Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4) to Fair ( Volume 5), and pages are clean and bright. Specific faults: Vol 1: very slight warping to back board, back board rubbed/knocked. Vol 2: some foxing to external top edges. Vol 3: some rubbing/bumping to boards. Vol 5: casing split along front hinge, lower 40%; binding pulled at pp 3631-3632 (last leaf of text) and resulting damage which has pulled the rear end paper away from the board.
