The author was Director of the Metallurgical Laboratory of the atomic bomb project from 1942 to 1945, and one of the leading scientists concerned with the development of the atomic bomb. This book is his personal narrative of the project and the work that led up to it. Black cloth-covered boards, gilt titles to spine, pictorial dust jacket (overall orange coloured) illustrations from photographs, 370 pages. Condition: Dust jacket (unclipped) creased, worn and chipped, with a tear along the fold to the front flap. Boards rubbed, but book is internally unmarked and the pages clean and bright.
