Ex-library, with various labels and remnants to front and papers. Maroon coloured cloth-covered boards, blind stamped, gilt titles to spine, 248 Pages. Bookplate to the rear paste down: “Ronald William Poulton Palmer B.A. Oxon. Born 12th September, 1889. Killed in action in Flanders, May 5, 1915. He captained the English Rugby Football Team in 1914, and was in all his ways a leader of men”. A quotation from the preface on the dangers of urban life to adolescents (in 1912): “never has youth been exposed to such dangers… Increasing urban life, with its temptations, prematurities, sedentary occupations, and passive stimuli…”. Condition: Boards bumped, and rubbed at extremities. Library shelf marked to spine, labels to front and papers, small library stamp to title page and a larger one to verso. Text block a little block bumped, occasional pencil marks to margin, pages age-darkened.
