Engraving as title page followed by title page with vignette in Volume 1, vignette to title page of Volume 2. There is a substantial index at the end of Volume 2, and colophon “LVGD. BATAV. Apud Viduam & Haeredes JOHAN. ELSEVIERII, Academ.Typograph.. 1672.” Binding is old vellum. Rear free end paper is torn at corner. Rear paste down has the following pencil note (not recent): ‘Elzevir Variorum 1672. “A good copy of this Edition of 1672, which is printed by the Elzevir, is worth £2:12:6”. Dibdin’s Introduction, Vol 2 p. 453.’. Condition: Vellum grubby but sound. Hinge strained at frontispiece (photos available- please ask), otherwise binding firm and very tight. Some grubbiness to page margins.
