Pages 271 to 479 comprise an account of the First Afghan War. ‘Compiled in the Intelligence Branch, Division of the Chief of the Staff, Army Head Quarters, India’. Ex library, red cloth-covered boards, blue cloth spine. Condition: Sound library binding of a book that has had a hard life. First page after title page variously annotated and with ownership stamp, considerable insect damage, laid on to backing paper. Two maps (Fortress of Ghazni and the British Cantonment at Kabul), the former with considerable repair and some loss at margin. The book ends at page 460; that page has substantial loss, and is laid on backing paper, as are all other pages from 449, with varying degrees of loss. Insect damage (worm holes) throughout.
