Reprinting (1961) of first (1956) edition. Volume II (2) only. Generously illustrated with photographs, maps and diagrams. Octavo/quarto borderline in size (25 cm high). These were written as comprehensive histories offering an inter-service view of the course of the conflict. Editors Major-General I.S.O. Playfair and C.J.C. Molony, with other co-editors. Series editor (of the United Kingdom Military Series) J.R.M. Butler. Contents of Vol II: The Germans Come to the Help of Their Ally, 424 pp. Ex public library. Condition: Dust jacket protected in transparent wrappers; library’s stamps etc prominent at front end papers and title page (including verso). Two of the maps have been allowed to protrude from the text block and consequently have worn edges- in one case affecting the margin and in the second a fold, although the damage is cosmetic rather than functional. Contents otherwise clean, sound and unmarked save an occasional discreet library stamp. Sound reading copy.
