Translated from the Dutch by M H Braaksma. Light-coloured cloth-covered boards, prelims to p xi then 295 pages including a Bibliography. The work brings the psychodynamic approach to individual behaviour to bear on the behaviour of guards and prisoners in the camps. The four main sections are Some General Aspects of the Concentration Camps, Medical Aspects of the Camps, The Psychology of the Concentration Camp Prisoner and The Psychology of the SS. The author was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medical Science by the University of Utrecht on the basis of this book. Dr Cohen had first hand experience of the concentration camps, and many of his family died in the holocaust. Condition: Dust jacket discoloured and worn, with loss, now protected by transparent cover. Stains from adhesive tape or similar to front end papers, but otherwise the book itself is in good, clean condition.
