Further Details

Co-authored by Will Reason, who worked with Jonas Stadling on a re-writing for the English market of Stadling’s work in Swedish (“Fran det Hungrande Ryssland”). Illustrated with many engravings from photographs, including some of Tolstoi himself and of Countess Tolstoi, and also of the desperate people whom Tolstoi was trying to help. Red cloth-covered boards, gilt version of one of the engravings (Tolstoi) to front board, gilt titles to spine. Book plate of A.S and L.B. Walford to front paste down, stamp of Kyrle Society, 192 Marylebone Road, NW, to half title. Condition: Boards grubby and very worn, with some water damage to boards, resulting in cloth starting to lift from board (see photograph- others available on request). Internally, hinges strained at p 81, some dust soiling at pp 275-277 resulting from page corners being turned down, else sound and clean. Binding a little slack but holding. All illustrations as called for.
