Further Details

A dictionary of Mediaeval Latin (with meanings given in Latin- only the introduction is in French). Title continues “ex Glossariis Caroli Dufresne, D. H. Carpentarii, Adelungii, et Aliorum, in Compendium Accuratissime Redactum: ou Recueil de Mots de la Basse Latinité Dressé pour Servir l’Intelligence des Auteurs, soit sacrés, soit profanes, du Moyen Age, par W-H Maigne d’Arnis”. A modern rebinding, green cloth-covered boards. Pages largely unopened. There is no indication of the date work on any of the printed pages, and the date is taken taken solely from the spine of the volume. An earlier title page, presumably from the first edition, is bound in before the first (blank) page of this edition, followed by the half title and title page. The work is numbered in columns (two columns to a page) rather than pages. An introduction is numbered as columns 10-15, an index of abbreviations follows in columns 17-20, and the dictionary itself numbered columns 21-2336. There is a single leaf of publisher’s advertisements bound in, somewhat randomly, at the rear. Condition: The rather poor quality paper is age-tanned throughout. Binding is sound, with new end papers. Pages are unmarked.
