Further Details

Ex-library, in relatively modern dark green library binding. Complete in two volumes, with map as fold-out to the beginning of Volume 1, hand-coloured frontispieces, one other coloured illustration to volume 1 and line illustrations throughout the text, all as called for. Condition: The re-binding is sound and sturdy. There are remnants of a library label to each of the (new) front free end papers, an accession number to the title pages and library stamps to their obverse. The pages are clean and unmarked, although trimming has resulted in some loss to margins. In the case of the second plate in Volume I, the very tight binding makes it difficult to read the caption, and the top margin of the (landscape-oriented) image has been trimmed away. The fold-out map, on very stout paper, has been folded so as to protrude from the book, but has not been damaged. Very occasional foxing, and some damp staining to margins of one or two of the early pages.
