Co-editor Frans Verdoorn. Quote from the forward: “We have endeavoured to present a picture of the development and status of a number of branches of the natural sciences, pure and applied, in the Netherlands Indies.” A substantial, large-format work, with many photographic and diagrammatic illustrations. To give just a random selection of the chapter titles, each by a specialist in the field: “Recent studies in sediments in the Java Sea”, “The geology of the Netherlands Indies”, “The Flora of Tjibodas”. 491 pages. Condition: The book itself is clean and sound, with just a little rubbing and bumping to the top of spine and a little grubbiness to the spine strip. Internally, this volume is an excellent condition. Dust jacket is in a poor way, being grubby, frayed and torn along top edge, and with a 2 to 3 inch tear to the back.
