Eight colour plates, twenty-four monochrome. Biographical sketches from the lives of German painters. Chapters are: The Early Masters of the School of Cologne, Martin Schongauer, Albrecht Durer, Hans Burgkmair-Hans Baldung- Matthias Grunwald, Albrecht Altdorfer and the Nuremburg “Little Masters”, The Two Cranachs, The Two Holbeins, Adam Elsheimer, Anton Raphael Mengs, Daniel Chodowiecki, Anton Graff. Green boards with gilt decoration to front board (in good condition) and to spine (very faded). Condition: Boards a little bumped, roughly-trimmed page edges showing inevitable soiling. Internally, a little grubbiness/darkening to outer margins but overall still clean and bright.
