A book dealing with the events of 6 December 1917 when two ships, one of which was loaded with munitions, collided in Halifax Harbour (Nova Scotia). When the Mont Blanc exploded, 2 square miles of the city of Halifax was levelled and 1650 people killed outright. This book, edited by Graham Metson, consists of the full text of Archibald MacMechan’s account of the Halifax disaster of 1917, (pages 11 to 75) followed by documents collected and edited by Metson (pages 77 to 165), a section on repercussions (166-167), the establishment of the Hydrostone neighbourhood to provide accommodation for displaced familes in the wake of the disaster (169-170) and finally a chronology (171-173) illustrated from contemporary photographs and facsimiles of documents. Condition: Ex-library (Nanhurst Children’s Hospital) with remnants of pocket to front paste down, library stamp to front free endpaper, and without title page. Dust jacket somewhat soiled and worn at the extremities.
