Undated, although the introduction refers to “the recent revolt” in India, and a later sentence in the same paragraph places the writing of this work somewhere between 1842 and 1862. In the usual red cloth-covered boards of these multi-part publications, blind stamped, and with gilt decoration and titles. With a double page map and eight plates, each with tissue guards, bound in at the beginning, as well as an engraved title page. The text of this first “division” goes up to page 192. With three leaves of publisher’s advertisements at the end. Condition: Boards rubbed and worn, offsetting to the tissue guards, with a little spotting to the margins of some of the plates. Text pages for the most part clean and bright, but I have found one that has some staining on it.
