Large quarto, but with Volume I trimmed and bound to be slightly smaller than Volume II. Rebound in brown buckram, with new end papers. Condition: Loss to volume 2 as follows: title page (text title page, not the decorated one, which is still present), and the two leaves that should follow, including the first leaf of the poem (Edwina). Photocopies of the missing pages have been slipped into the book (but not pasted in). Plates: of the 74 that are mentioned in the List of Illustrations at the end of Volume 2, the following are missing: page 118, a view of Walton house, page 153, the house of R.Warwick, page 161, a view of Wetheral safeguard, page 414, view of Blencowe, page 545, Arthuret church, page 548, map of Solway-Moss, page 549, Kirkandrews Church. The list of 74 includes several that occur in the run of the text rather than as separate plates. The modern binding is sound and serviceable; the pages have been left uncut (untrimmed) and the gutter margins remain generous. The foldout plan of Whitehaven is torn in the centre, along its folds. There are occasional small repairs to margins.
