First edition, blue cloth-covered boards, quarter leather, marbled end papers. With a coloured frontispiece, many full-page monochrome illustrations (many from photographs) and several line drawings in run of text. Condition: The boards are somewhat knocked and rubbed, but bindings firm and pages clean and unmarked. There is a little foxing to the early pages, and what is probably water damage to the margin of the coloured frontispiece. Prize label to front paste down dated 1945. External page edges soiled.
