Third and cheaper edition. Red-brown cloth-covered boards, black decoration to front board and spine, gilt titles to front board and spine, 348 pages plus 40 pages of publisher’s catalogue, fold-out map bound in opposite title page (The European Polar Sea). Condition: Boards bumped and rubbed, with the spine strip very faded. Folding map opposite title page with one area of translucent tape repair to the verso, a small tear at an intersection of folds, otherwise clean and sound. Of the other six illustrations and maps, five are in very good condition, but the sixth (A Map of France Joseph Land) has repair and reinforcement to the verso (with no loss).
