An account of what the author describes as a ‘simple tale of a strategically unimportant but highly successful side-show, in Germany, in the dog days of 1918’. The incident described is the attempted escape from a German Prisoner of War camp by British prisoners in 1918. Grey paper covered boards, red cloth spine strip with gilt titles, illustrations from photographs, 196 pages. Condition: Covers rubbed, with some loss of paper cover to the front board. Severe foxing across end papers, some to title page, pages otherwise clean save occasional spotting. Foxing to top of text block- that is, to external page edges. Illustrations (including a tipped in facsimile of one of the forged documents) in excellent condition.
