A series of articles on “the worst paid and most murderous trades of England”: covering Alkali Workers, Nailmakers, Slipper-Makers and Tailors, Woolcombers, White-Lead Makers and Chainmakers. Originally published in Pearson’s Magazine; this book includes the Prefatory Note that appeared in that publication, and an Appendix of extra material (pp 241-370). Gift inscription dated 1897 to front free end paper. Condition: Boards worn, spine soiled, a small patch of splashing to both boards, pages rather age-darkened, a little spotting here and there. Previous owner’s name to front free end paper as well as original gift inscription.
