The author enlisted in the British Army in 1873, having left it too late to obtain a commission by the then normal route, and this is his account of his progression through the ranks to his commission. Red cloth-covered boards, black titles and decoration to front board, black titles to spine, 180 pages. Condition: Title page and ‘Advertisement’ detached. Boards faded and rubbed.
