Edited and Completed by H. B. Cotterill. Pictorial cloth-covered boards. All maps present and as called for but missing three plates. To compensate, there is a letter from Elton to Kirk (Dr John Kirk, at the time British Adminstrator in Zanzibar ) tipped in. Most intriguingly, the letter tells of a hunting excursion undertaken by Elton and a companion, with the letter being tipped in next to the section in the book in which this same excursion is described. The book was bought at an auction that included books from Kirk’s personal library. Condition: Spine strip almost completely lost, boards rubbed, binding strained in one or two places. On the whole clean internally, but one pair of facing pages have staining, and there is some foxing (notably to a fold-out map).
