Further Details

“This book brings together all of the traceable watercolours of scenery in England (and a small number of subjects and Wales) that Turner made between 1810 and 1836 specifically for engraving in 11 series of topographical views. In addition, it includes several drawings were made after 1810 which Turner subsequently allowed to be engraved at a later date”. With a preface, substantial introduction, colour reproductions of 227 of the watercolours and of 31 monochrome reproductions of the engravings when no photograph of the watercolour is available. Each illustration is accompanied by a commentary. There are also notes to the introduction and commentaries and an index of titles and subjects. A beautiful and scholarly book. Landscape format, approximately 27 cm x 30 cm. Condition: The dust jacket is enclosed in a transparent wrapper, and although this is rather amateur in nature, it is attached only to itself and not to the book. There is some wear to the dust jacket; the book itself is in clean, sound attractive condition, although with some dust soiling to the top external page edges.
