One coloured plate (cast iron pipes being laid 100 years earlier in Piccadilly) and 12 monochrome from photographs, mostly of old and still serviceable pipes in situ. The first two chapters cover the history and development of water supplies and the use of cast iron pipes, while the remaining chapters cover cast-iron water mains and gas mains in Great Britain, France and the United States. There are also two tables, one of old cast-iron mains in use in London and another giving details of old cast-iron mains in use across the UK, and including the name of the company responsible for each. Condition: Some foxing, especially to early pages, spine soiled. Binding firm, photographic illustrationss in very good condition.
