The Strait of Anian first appeared on a map of North America published in 1565. Previously North America had always been represented as an extension of Eastern Asia; the Straits of Anian proposal hypothesised the existence of the channel which is now known as the Baring Straits. Light brown paper-covered boards, darker brown spine strip, 36 pages. Condition: Various library traces to covers, cancelled library label to front paste down, light pencil ownership notes and a bibliographical note to front end papers, front free end paper clipped at top corner, text pages clean and unmarked; the heavy, good quality paper has aged very well.
